Reflection of the School Year

Now that the school year is over, I will reflect on some things that I hove enjoyed and learned over the past year.

My first big achievement was getting into the GATE math program, where I learned many things such as calculating the area of a triangle and learning codes for the GATE Math Fair. Although I had already loved math when I got into the program, I feel that GATE has deepened my appreciation of math even more.

Second of all, I liked it when I got to do a book talk on a mystery I had recently read. For my book talk I did the book The Case of the Screeching Owl by Franklin W. Dixon. I greatly enjoyed the book and when when I finished my book talk I got secures on every mini-subject I was supposed to focus on.

Finally, I liked it when at the end of the year I had a book club doing the book Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins. I enjoyed talking about the book with my book club and wish we could've talked about more books.

Those are some highlights of the past school year and I hope I can have another year as good as this one.

The Mysterious Benedict Society

Recently I read a book called The Mysterious Benedict Society, and it was AMAZING. The story takes place in a city called Stonetown, where a mysterious ad appears in the newspaper saying, "Are you a gifted child looking for special opportunities?" When eleven-year-old orphan Reynard Maldoon finds this ad, he decides to take a series of tests to join the Mysterious Benedict Society. After the long-awaited moment of peace when the tests are finally over, Reynard finds himself with two other test-takers: Sticky Washington and Kate Wetherall. Although they have completely different pasts, they all share one thing in common: before the second test, all three of them met a girl named Rhonda Kazembe whose pencil fell into a drain. Rhonda then offered all three of them test cheats. After they discovered that had happened to all three of them, a man introducing himself as Milligan meets them, he suddenly brings them into a mysterious maze of rooms. After all three of them complete the maze, they meet a man named Nicholas Benedict, who tells them that them that they are in greater danger than ever expected. The excitement goes on from there.

The Effects of Light With Rainbows

As everyone knows, rainbows are just light. But why can you never get to one, even if you walk for miles?        Here's why.

  1. Sunlight shines onto raindrops, causing it to refract. (Split apart)
  2. When the sunlight refracts, it splits into the seven colors of the rainbow, creating a rainbow.
  3. When you try to walk to the rainbow, steps 1 and 2 repeat with raindrops farther away from you, causing the rainbow to be the same distance away from you when you weren't walking.
  4. As long as you keep walking, step 3 repeats.

The Viper's Nest

Lately, I've been reading a 39 Clues book called The Viper's Nest, and I think it's great! My favorite part was when Dan and Amy, the main characters in the book, broke into the Tomas stronghold claiming they were the Holts, one of their rivals in the clue hunt! The Tomas are one of the four branches in the Cahill family along with the Lucians, Janus, and Ekaterina. I think this is a great book and strongly recommend it!
